Let's talk about quinoa

Food wise this is one of the biggest hypes I can remember. It’s just incredible how many people want to eat it. I have been eating it for 5 or 6 years now (so maybe I started the hype…) and I cant’ remember that it was sold out. However I still love to use this ‘super food’ in all kinds of salads. You can either eat it hot or cold and I even like to eat it neither hot nor cold. The thing about quinoa is how it fills you up without giving you the feeling to take a nap. It is ands stays a super food. It’s super healthy, filling and it actually tastes good (what is nice to). I love to take it as a lunch on weekdays. I love the moment you open your lunchbox and everybody has this ‘I want to eat that look’ on his/her face. It really is a nice change on your regular cheese sandwich. You can also found some ideas for breakfast or snack, but I haven’t tried it yet, let me know if it’s good. When we are talking about the savoury use: I’m not going to give you the millionth recipe for a healthy quinoa salad. Instead I will give you some tips to use quinoa. If you follow these tips your quinoa is going to taste even better:
Wash your quinoa before you cook it. It’s really important to do it well because otherwise you have a little bitter skin around your quinoa. And that doesn’t taste good, believe me I know…
Add at least a handful of fresh herbs like parsley, tribes, basil, spring onion… It ads that touch of freshness to your salad
When you cook it ad a tablespoon of olive oil, a bit of vegetable stock and a whole garlic clove. It ads some extra taste to your grain.
Make sure you don’t add to much water. You normally add twice as much water, but I always add a little less. Because you have washed it first it already contains some water.
