TRENDmas #Day3: CULOTTES

As the third letter of the alphabet is the C, I am talking about culottes today in my TRENDmas series. This is probably the hardest one for me to talk about. Culottes have always been the love or hate garment of street style.

Even tough it has been around for a few years now; it’s only since this year they really started appearing in the ‘mainstream’ shops. If something is available in ZARA, Mango or H&M it must be trendy, mustn’t it?

To me it remains something very strange. The least you can say is that it’s a ‘head-turning’ look. You certainly won’t pass by unseen. Something in me thinks that this ‘trend’ only is made for either the models or either for the high-end bloggers. They can get away with it in the name of being stylish.

If I go out with culottes to the grocery shop, I would not get away with it. But I actually don’t mind that, because I love to use how creative some fashionistas are and I admire them. So for everyone who dares to go to the grocery shop in culottes, hooray!

One thing you do have to be is tall. Short legs and culottes don’t get along to me. Another thing is to dress the rest down. You are already wearing an eye-catcher, so don’t over do it. Lastly I would recommend wearing heals with them, as I don’t really like a pair of sneakers with them. But that’s just personal.

I think it’s fun to have in your closet as something festive. You can surprise everyone when by not showing up in a dress or skirt and it’s perfect to try new things out.

In the collage I put some street style pictures of how you can wear them. I like most of them, but some are just a bit too much. I still love to see how everyone combines them in a different way. Such a source of inspiration!
